Hi everyone, are you surprised by this blog post? Well, I’ve been spending more time in the backyard and have been loving it. Today I’m sharing how to grow a herb garden. I always wanted to grow herbs, and I made it happen.
Since we cook a lot and use many herbs, it makes more sense to have my herb garden. I don’t consider myself a pro. Everything I share is from my trial and error. I’m learning every day, and hopefully, my garden will show it.
Before I start a project, I often go on youtube or blogs to learn and educate myself. One thing you need to know is everyone has different opinions and suggestions. So decide the way you will go and start working on your project.
Will it work 100% from the beginning? Probably not, but we all learn right?
Steps to Grow Your Herb Garden
Since the soil was terrible (clay-like), I had to use my cultivator. It was way easier to turn the soil and took me less time than using a manual tool. In addition to the compost, I was adding chicken manure(I have backyard chickens, which also helps).
I watered the soil for a couple of days so everything could settle. I started to plant some of the herbs and ladybug-friendly plants.
Adding ladybugs and thinking they would stay was a waste of money for sure. I placed the ladybugs (at night) after I planted all the herbs and flowers. The problem was that nothing had been well established to make them stay, so they flew away. We will see what I will do in the future because I don’t want to spray the herbs with anything. There are organic methods people recommend. I will see what I decide to do as long as it is not harmful to anyone.
I added a drip irrigation system. As much as I thought it would be enough to water the herbs, it wasn’t. I also added some drip lines to help with the watering.
Last but not least, I purchased the adorable bamboo plant labels. I love labeling everything because it makes it organized.
Below are all the herbs I have planted. You can also check my Instagram where I saved the whole process in my highlights. Every day the garden looks fuller and more beautiful.
HOW IT BEGAN
If you have been following my journey for a while you may know I had some health issues. To read more about my health click HERE.
This whole process of planting herbs was pretty enjoyable. I have a pretty busy life, and spending time in my backyard with my family has been great. We laugh together and have the kids playing less with electronics and stay more outdoors with us.
You can make a herb garden or any other garden of your choice, even in a smaller space. Nothing can beat the time you spend in nature. I appreciate you visiting my blog, and feel free to ask questions. I’m not a pro, and every day is a learning process. I hope this inspires you to grow your herb garden. Have a fantastic day!
