Hello everyone, today I will update you on my Gluten-Free Travel experience.
In the last couple of weeks, I traveled for work and got used to the gluten-free life. Today I will share what has helped me so far, and hopefully, I can help any of you that needs those tips.
Travel Tips for Glute Free Diet
- Always bring lots of gluten free snacks with you. You never know what you can find at the airport (or gas stations if you travel with a car). The first time I traveled after I was diagnosed with celiac I didn’t think I will not be able to find gluten free food and I was wrong. Always bring food with you.
- The sales people don’t know much about the product they sell. Unless is advertised as gluten free, or is in a individual package that says gluten free don’t eat it. The individuals that don’t have celiac don’t know really the severity so they thing it is just a trend to eating gluten free. Some poeple have major reactions when tasting gluten others minor, still our bodies do not tolerate gluten and we need to avoid it at any cost.
- Always ask if the food they are preparing is fried or whatever with other food that contains gluten. I was at a restaurant and the menu had symbols that the food was GF. When I asked the waitress if the fries are fried in a separate fryer she said they were not. The restaurant prepares everything in the same fryer. This means they falsely advertise GF food. Always ask questions because you never know.
- There will be times where you will not have options, just have to trust your gut feeling. When in doubt eat fruit and veggies.
- The sauces that some meat and veggies are prepared with may contain gluten. I didn’t know that until I did my research. When we were in Mexico the staff was always so kind and letting me know that the spices or sauces contained or didn’t contain gluten.
This is what I have learned so far. If you didn’t read my post about how I found out I have celiac disease, read it HERE. I will update you in the future with more tips on my new gluten-free life. Every day I’m learning how to protect myself. Always read the labels, and when in doubt I pass. Below I attached my current favorite gluten-free snacks.
