I finally wanted to update you on something personal. It is important to me to share my health, life experiences with all of you. If I can help or inspire one person, this post is worth it.
I also share my daily life on Instagram about everything life. Feel free to follow me HERE and let’s be friends.
Let’s get to the health update. In 2019 I had an abnormal blood test (my liver enzymes were elevated). My doctor thought it was strange for me to have my enzymes being elevated, so we did another test and got the same results.
Usually, the liver enzymes are elevated when you are drinking a lot of alcohol (I don’t), when you take prescription medications (I don’t), or have some liver issues, which is so scary.
A couple of months later, I was advised to do a liver biopsy and many other tests involving scans, blood work, and more tests. It was scary and, at the same time, no answers. So we continue to monitor the blood work once a month, and still, my enzymes kept being elevated.
After 2.5 years, my doctor advises another liver biopsy. I decided not to do it but instead start doing my own research. How I was feeling physically wasn’t guiding me to discover anything. I was tired all the time; this is not a surprise since I work a lot, have 3 kids, and so on.
My skin on my face was kind of strange, but I still never thought of anything. Slowly, I narrowed down the things that I need to check, and the main one was GLUTEN. I went for blood work, and shockingly I was positive for gluten intolerance.
Then I was advised to do an endoscopy, we did it, and I was diagnosed with celiac disease. This is the explanation based on Google. “Celiac disease is an immune disease in which people can’t eat gluten because it will damage their small intestine. If you have celiac disease and eat gluten, your immune system responds by damaging the small intestine. Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley.”
So I’m not allowed to eat gluten in any shape and form; otherwise, there are many side effects for my body. I honestly have been gluten-free for 2 weeks already. I feel better. My face feels less tight and clearer and less tired than before. There a still a long way to go, but I’m grateful for finding what caused my body to have elevated liver enzymes.
Below are some of my favorite gluten-free snacks. This post contains affiliate links; I get a small percentage if you purchase something, not at your expense. This is how I support my blog. Thank you for your continued support, and I’m preparing amazing blog posts in the future.
